Vor 26 Jahren begann die Erfolgsgeschichte eines einzigartigen Festivals, das seitdem alljährlich im Sommer für Vielfalt und Toleranz, für ambitionierte Musik und Tanzlaune beim Publikum sorgt. Längst hat sich das Road-Festival ODYSSEE: Musik der Metropolen als wichtigste musikalische Plattform für globales Lebensgefühl an der Ruhr platziert. Zwölf eintrittsfreie Konzerte unter freiem Himmel locken die Fans globaler Musik auch in diesem Jahr mit einem breiten Spektrum an innovativen Sounds. Erneut dürfen charismatische Bands im Revier gefeiert werden, die auf vier Bühnen mit urbanen Klängen und ambitionierten Songs gute Laune verbreiten und sich engagiert gegen Diskriminierung, Rassismus und Gewalt positionieren.
Seit mehr als einem Vierteljahrhundert zieht der Global Music Truck alljährlich durch das Revier. Das Team der Veranstaltenden von Ringlokschuppen Ruhr in Mülheim, Bahnhof Langendreer in Bochum, von Pelmke in Hagen und der Altstadtschmiede Recklinghausen in Kooperation mit dem Institut für Kulturarbeit in Recklinghausen ist Garant für ein attraktives Programm. Durch die bewährte Medienpartnerschaft von WDR COSMO lockt das Festival auch in diesem Sommer Fans aus dem ganzen Revier zu fulminanten Bühnenshows. Urbane Klänge für alle Sinne, wie immer Open Air und eintrittsfrei!

The 26th anniversary of the touring Summer-Festival ODYSSEE celebrates current global sounds in the Ruhr valley

It all started with an innovative idea: not only to popularise the music of migrants, but also to provide them with an attractive platform. Embedded within a festival that offers musicians the opportunity to connect with each other. Four venues in the Ruhr valley play host to these concerts every summer, now
becoming one of the most attended festivals for global music. The ODYSSEE Festival: Music of the Metropolises, funded and broadcasted worldwide by WDR COSMO, will feature twelve magical concerts with vibrant music. This year, charismatic bands will take the stage, not only delivering pulsating crossover beats but also taking a courageous stand against discrimination, racism, and violence – through powerful sounds, hypnotic rhythms, and ingenious fusions. Urban sounds for the senses - always outdoors and free. All concerts start at 7.30 p.m.
The festival's first season kicks off with energetic Balkan rhythms. The twelve- member Dance Orchestra Paschulke presents an explosive mix of styles from July 10th to 13th. While the brass section delivers lively Balkan ska rhythms, traditional melodies intertwine with well-known pop songs, creating an extremely danceable fusion.
Brazilian sounds and Afro-Latino rhythms collide with electro-punk: The band Francisco, el Hombre, delivers a highly explosive cocktail with ambitious lyrics and celebrates Latin American culture from July 17th to 20th. With their songs against violence and oppression, this Brazilian-Mexican quintet has become an icon for younger generations.
A unique blend of traditional Anatolian folk with Turkish rock from the 70s, infused with pop and jazz elements, is presented by Derya Yildirim & Grup Simsek from July 24th to 27th. With her haunting voice and the virtuoso trio Grup ?im?ek, they fascinatingly merge Anatolian poetic traditions with contemporary sounds.
The organisational team comprising of Ringlokschuppen Ruhr in Mülheim, Bahnhof Langendreer in Bochum, Pelmke in Hagen and Altstadtschmiede in Recklinghausen in cooperation with the Institute for Culture Affairs in Recklinghausen have once again compiled an ambitious programme.
